Reg: The wait continues.. Some other matters of relevance..
As we anxiously await some positive information regarding our attempts at making the Govt. see our very genuine points on our main demands of Up-gradation of Pension, improvement in Family Pension and additional Pension on 5 yearly turns for those over the age of 80, the one factor that has over-taken all else is the raging Pandemic and the untold challenges it has posed to the Central and State Governments in terms of providing relief to those affected. Virtually, the whole country is now on total lockdown once again. It is quite sad that a number of our own community of LIC pensioners have also lost their lives to this dreadful virus. So, we reckon that the country’s priority is clearly there where maximum suffering and loss of life is involved. We may need to wait, though such waiting, for us senior people, will be at some cost, of some numbers necessarily dropping out, due to exits that cannot be helped.
Meanwhile, we have once again taken up with the CO on the matter of uniformly delivering our Pension on the first of the month, without fail. This is not a major issue if only the CO can get down to it in right earnest. LIC ensures to Annuitants the Annuity amounts bang on the 1st of the month, come hell or high water. Why can’t a similar approach be taken to make sure our Pension reaches us on the 1st of the month to all, right across the country? Come to think of it, the matter is pretty minor, as it does not involve any difficult moves from the side of the administration. It only requires the will on the part of those involved in this operation at the CO to tighten the screws to make it happen. The letter addressed to the MD is part of this communication.
The other enclosure to this Circular is the Master Policy for our Mediclaim scheme, and those of us who would want to go through it can do so. It carries useful references in terms of Policy Numbers and Zone-wise TPAs, which may be needed for us at times.
The other item sent along with this communication is a Central Govt. Notification that brings about changes in the rules for eligibility for appointment of Chairman for LIC. The notable features are 1. The retirement age for those appointed will be 62 (or 3 years as Chairman whichever is earlier). Viewed in this perspective the present Chairman will get an extension from June this year, till March next year. 2. The selection to the post will now be from MDs within the LIC, and residual period of service will not be a bar. 3. The final point in the Notification talks about the earlier rule regarding Zone of consideration for the post having been removed, which might mean, in case of need, the Chairman can also be from outside of the LIC. This seems to go along with the changes that may happen in the context of the IPO moves.
